When others aren’t aligned with your Neurodiversity Affirming approach to supporting Neurodivergent Kids…
by Adina Levy
In one of my Exploring Neurodiversity podcasts, I share 7 ideas about Collaboration & Advocacy: When others aren’t aligned with your Neurodiversity Affirming approach to supporting Neurodivergent Kids.ย It’s just 12 mins long – head on over to listen now!
One of the key messages I share is that when you and another adult aren’t aligned in how you approach support for a child, it’s so important toย pause and try to understand their barriers. Get curious, try to be open-minded, and hear them out.
Try to understand what is that other person’s hesitation, misinformation, what are the biases and preconceived notions that the other adult has about autism, disability, neurodiversity.
What are the beliefs that that person has about how teaching and learning should happen?
Get curiousย about where those beliefs have come from.
Reflection question: Are there any adults in your world who don’t agree with your approach to supporting neurodivergent kids? What might be the reasons behind their different approach or beliefs?
